DONOR FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQs):

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE?
Consisting of ultrasounds, minor blood work and fertility injections, the entire process requires approximately two weeks in advance. You will need to come in for short appointments during this time so that we can monitor your progress and ensure your safety. The egg retrieval itself takes less than ½ hour.

WILL IT HURT?
No. The retrieval process is completed with anesthesia. You will be asleep and will not remember anything upon waking.

IS IT RISKY FOR ME?
No. Ovarian hysperstimulation caused by fertility medications (something we will discuss with you in detail well in advance), is almost entirely preventable. Furthermore, there are no long-term risks associated with the medications you will receive.

WHO WILL GET MY EGGS?
Your eggs are received by patients who need them to have a baby. Recipients include women who do not have viable eggs, women that suffer from genetic disorders and women who have lost ovarian function due to illness. It may also include men who desire to be parents.

IS THE PROCESS COMPLETELY ANONYMOUS?
This depends on your preferences. If you would like to remain anonymous, we will protect your identity. If you would like to share your identity with the recipient, please mark “Open Donor” on the application form.
